Restaurant Review.

27 January 2009

We arrived at Shortie's a little after 10am and were greeted at the door by our waitress who showed us to our booth and gave us menus. It wasn't very busy as the breakfast crowd had left and the lunch crown hadn't come in yet.

The decor is classic diner style with juke boxes in the booths and chrome stools at the counter. There was no music and diners were engaged in quiet conversations. There were about 9 tables full and probably 4 or 5 people seated at the counter. It was a cold day but the restaurant was warm and the booth was cozy.

Our waitress asked about beverage to start us out and we all opted for coffee. She was back in a flash with coffee and creamers. The black coffee was fresh and hot with no bitter after taste.

Breakfast is always available at Shortie's which was great because that's what we were there for. They have the typical diner breakfast offerings; eggs, bacon, ham, sausage, home fries, English muffin, pancakes, bagels and more.

Our waitress was back as soon as our menus were folded. One companion ordered the breakfast croissant which considered of two eggs and a choice of bacon, ham or sausage as well as choice of cheese; cheddar, Swiss or American. The other companion had blueberry pancakes that also came with the same choice of meat.

After the waitress had taken our order to the kitchen she returned with coffee refills. The plates arrived shortly and were served in the proper order. Sides of butter and syrup accompanied the breakfast.

The croissant was larger than we had envisioned. It was flaky and golden and easily held the two fried eggs, ham and melted Swill cheese. The pancakes were fluffy and nicely browned and dotted with real blueberries. The muffin was perfectly toasted and packed with fired eggs, American cheese and bacon. The bacon was nice and crispy, not under done or burnt. We wondered after our orders arrived if there was an option of how the eggs were cooked but a choice wasn't offered.

A third round of coffee was served and the waiteress checked in on us to make sure everything was OK.

Our breakfast was relaxed and we didn't feel rushed. Our waitress was prompt, courteous and professional.
