Not surprising the Village of Clayton, which is home to one of the largest collections of restored classic boats chose to restore the classic arch to its original simple perfection. Modern neon wiring make the arch easy to maintain. This approach seems to mirror the overall flavor of the village where most building are restored to their original condition.
The area around the sign and leading into the village is uncluttered, clean and fresh.

On the other hand Alexandria Bay's approach is equality predictable. Sometimes it seems the powers that be fairly are able to leave well enough alone. This gaudy oversized and ostentatious monstrosity is like the noisy child in the back of the room who is always shouting and waiving his arms in the attempt to gain the most attention.
Not seen in this shot are 2 shabby billboard signs to help greet visitors and set the stage for what lies ahead. It is interesting that there are a number of additional signs competing for attention. Why would a village need to boast they support the troops, twice, on the same sign. Signs like this seem to imply that the resident soldiers and family's are not really welcome everywhere so we need to assure them when they are.
